[ OH HEY GUYS, SEEN THIS BEFORE?
yeah sorry about spamming you guys who watch me on my main xD ANYWAY -copies, pastes-

Okay well I know those are Peony`s there and those are Calla Lilies in the corner but child!Lian (yes Jie Jie I stole Guilin`s hairstyle LOL @U@ I`m sorry I`m so unoriginal and just "down" hair is too boring) is actually holding a poppy. It`s symbolic like everything else in my pictures LOL anyway, in the 1850`s there was something called the Opium Wars, two wars over the course of a decade or so. China was not very partial to trade however it had select ports open to the world. One of these ports was Canton, or as it is today Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong. Opium was illegal in China, however the East India trading company developed a way of smuggling it into China when British traders would purchase tea in Canton. it was debated whether or not to make the trade legal, however it ended with the sentence of death to the native traffickers in China. In March 1839 the Emperor appointed Lin Zexu to control the opium trade at the port of Canton, who, after attempts to dispose of the drug and control the trade, wrote a pleading letter to Queen Victoria. However it is believed it was never read. After much struggle over the British refusing to end the trade over various means of compensation for the stop of the trade, the British accused Lin instead of destroying their property. The army landed on June in 1840.
Two wars followed, the details would take too long to get into. The end result was the territory of Hong Kong being given to the British, not to be returned until over one hundred years later, as well as the forced opening of China to the world as far as commerce.

The point of drawing Lian with the theme of "Daughter of Evil" along with the black and yellow was along with the school of thought that although it was unlawful to be doing such a thing traders would back and forth trade the opium for the sake of money and money alone despite the damage and fury it was causing the government. It resulted it the secession of Hong Kong to Britain as well as the forceful opening of China`s ports as it also brought other areas under the hold of other foreign powers, ripping apart provinces (namely Guangdong in which Hong Kong and Guangzhouwan [ although this happened later it would not have if they had remained secluded ] previously belonged to), both of which would not have happened if not for all the sake of money.
though honestly I`m not saying it was wrong and shouldn`t have happened, everything happens for a reason, but as you can see I am trying to paint a story in your head and if countries and provinces were people, well, it would be a very sad story indeed.
[ plus in the PV she`s a princess and Lian acts like a complete Princess as a child ]

I suppose a good moral would not to be selfish unless you`re willing to get what is precious to you taken right back as payment. ]
